This week, we’re excited to highlight our recent trip to the Bahamas, where we launched an exciting new project with support from the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation. From outreach and education to on-land construction and in-water fieldwork, we can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to!

Our team spent a full day constructing custom grow-outs designed for the next phase of our reef grazer research. Once these were prepped, we headed underwater to begin transporting and assembling rock piles. These rock piles will help provide complex reef-life structure for the urchins.

This week, we’ll be highlighting our recent trip to the Bahamas where we worked on an exciting new project funded by Atlantis Blue Project Foundation. From outreach and education, to on-land construction and in water work we’re excited to share what we’ve been up to!

Thanks to generous support from Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, SOAR was able to set up an education booth at the Atlantis resort. We had the chance to connect with visitors and explain the vital role of the long-spined sea urchin (Diadema antillarum) in our reef ecosystems. Through an interactive activity, guests learned how these keystone grazers help keep algae in check and give corals the space they need to thrive.

We’re excited to share the results of our bioball streamer project, generously funded by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.

With their support, streamers were deployed across restoration practitioner nurseries, and we successfully collected over 200 juvenile Diadema antillarum.

A huge thank you to @coralrestorationfoundation , @protectourreefs , and @reefrenewalusa for opening their nurseries and partnering with us throughout this effort.

We are so grateful to the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation for their investment in innovative, collaborative reef restoration. Their support is helping us build a more resilient future for Florida’s Coral Reef.

Thank you to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Foundation ( @wildlife.florida ) for funding our recent project placing bioball streamers on Conch and Elbow Reef. In collaboration with NOAA Fisheries Southeast ( @noaafisheriessoutheast ), we successfully deployed and monitored these collectors to investigate settlement patterns and how reef structure influences Diadema antillarum settlement.

Over the course of the project, we collected 95 juvenile long-spined sea urchins, helping us better understand where and how these critical grazers recruit to the reef.

We’re grateful for the continued support of partners who make this work possible and help advance our mission to restore healthy, functioning reef ecosystems.
