Internships

Grow the Future of Reef Restoration
Join the team restoring reef grazers and rebuilding balance beneath the surface.

The Sustainable Ocean and Reefs Inc. (SOAR) Internship is a 4–6 month immersive experience based in the Florida Keys. This isn’t just fieldwork—it’s a launchpad for future marine scientists and conservation leaders.
Interns work hands-on in the largest reef grazer nursery in the Tropical Western Atlantic, learn restoration science from the seafloor up, and contribute meaningfully to research, operations, and outreach.

You’ll gain 1-on-1 mentorship, dive regularly, assist in research projects, and leave with skills you can take into grad school, research labs, or conservation careers.

SOAR Internship Description

This unique internship takes place in the Florida Keys and is hosted by Sustainable Ocean and  Reefs Inc. (SOAR). We are seeking one intern who will embark on a journey of hands-on, immersive training and activities focused on invertebrate reef grazers and reef restoration. Additionally, the intern will gain valuable experience in research and development.

This internship session will run for 4 to 6 months, depending on the candidate’s preference. The experience will offer ample 1 : 1 time with SOAR’s Founder and Director, offering the intern direct research experience, potential for an independent project, and network expansion.

Our Internships

Intern Alumni

"The ocean has always been my favorite place, and studying marine biology deepened my commitment to protecting it. I knew I wanted to focus on coral reef restoration, and my internship with SOAR brought that goal to life.

SOAR made the concepts I learned in school—like ecosystem-based management—real and tangible. I gained a deeper understanding of how reef grazers and other organisms interact to maintain ecosystem balance.

This experience strengthened my scientific skills and prepared me for a future in reef restoration. I highly recommend SOAR to anyone passionate about marine conservation—it will push you, inspire you, and shape you into the restorationist you want to become."
